Hemi Cordell was born in Auckland and raised in the occupied Palestinian territories, Bangladesh, England, and India. After time spent in Sri Lanka and Wales, he returned to Aotearoa in 2018 and now calls Wānaka home.

Hemi is bi-racial, multinational, and widely travelled, with a deep appreciation for multiculturalism and a strong commitment to inclusive community development.

He holds a master’s degree in international development from Massey University and since returning to New Zealand, he has established himself in the social and community development space in Central Otago.

Hemi is also a Qualified Firefighter whilst acting as the Sub-Associations Representative for the Otago–Southland Region and the UFBA (United Fire Brigades Association) representative for the Wānaka Fire Brigade.

Hemi brings a strong process and outcome oriented approach and a passion for intercultural connection which has been shaped by his international upbringing and professional experience.

He is committed to fostering inclusive spaces that celebrate diversity and empower newcomers and long-standing residents alike to thrive in the Queenstown Lakes District.
